After an emotional morning at Pearl Harbor we made our way back to Aulani. We knew we had a fun event planned for the afternoon at the resort. We made a pit stop at Costco as we were told that is the place to pick up some a few things to take home (much more affordable than the local gift shops) and also to fill up the gas tank in the jeep. Thankfully, Costco was a very short trip from the resort and so easy to get gas when needed.
We made our way back to Aulani and stopped by the DVC spot to complete our Hawaiian new word book. We talked with the rep for a few minutes about different 'goodies' that others have gotten after trips. The rep was really nice and we chatted for a while and he asked if we had any of the DVC coins to which we didn't because we haven't been to WDW in a few years (we have been hitting Vero the past couple years). He told us about the coins and then mentioned about the Aulani one and was so kind
It was time for a bite to eat before we set off to our DVC event Macarons and Mimosas! This is an event exclusive to DVC members and can only be booked 30 days in advance. There are several exclusive events held at different resorts but there were two at Aulani that we were excited to do. This was the first one. It is a demonstration cooking class on how to make macarons (which are different than macaroons) and each one is 'paired' with a different mimosa. The pastry chef was very informative and gave us tips for making these at home if we were so inclined. In addition to the yummy macarons that we were served along with three or four (yes, I lost count) different mimosas we also were each given a DVC Aulani apron. This is not an item that can be purchased anywhere (well, I am sure someone is selling them on eBay, because that's what people do).
After a fun afternoon of a bit too much sugar and mimosas, we knew we had planned to finally hit Monkeypod for dinner. We had heard so many good reviews of this place right across the street from Aulani so we finally had the time to get there and actually before Happy Hour was over, lol. On our way over, I had been meaning to take photos at the Aulani sign at the front of the resort and carried my tripod for just this reason so we finally got a couple photos there.
I had been told so many times you had to get the Mai Tai there with the honey lilikoi foam and boy was it good. Of course I opted for something not on the Happy Hour menu but it was so good. The shrimp and mushroom potstickers. I started eating shrimp a lot on this trip, lol. With no photo evidence, I forget what Dale had but they treated us to dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary this entire trip. The photo does not do it justice just how big that slice of strawberry cream pie was. It was also delicious. They had a young man singing throughout and he was really good.
After dinner we walked back to Aulani and a down to the beach for some 'sunset' photos with the Disney Photopass photographers. Granted the photo pass photographers weren't bad, but I had to edit each of the pics due to them being 'washed out' with the flash. If you look closely in the one photo you will see all the wrist bands that we have.
